When a prominent electrical contracting company in Midlothian needed to amp up their onsite security they relied on Richmond Security to provide the best solution to their unique needs and budget.
The Challenge
This client assembles and installs complex electrical solutions such as traffic signals, stoplights, toll both operations, signage and highway lighting. Their expertise helps Virginia roadways run smoothly and safely.
As part of daily operations, expensive copper, materials and tools are kept on-site, either in storage, or in the contractor yard where assembly takes place prior to installation.
After-hours thefts targeting these tools and materials were becoming more common. While the client had previously installed analog cameras, the cameras weren’t deterring thefts. Additionally, the low-resolution footage wasn’t enough to provide the details needed to see how unauthorized persons were entering the premises or clear enough pictures to help authorities identify the perpetrators.
After several thefts, the client knew it was time to step up security to not only deter thefts but also to better record and document any attempted entries.
The Solution
Richmond Security was able to provide an analysis of the existing system to develop a specific solution to meet the client’s needs, while also addressing their concerns and budget.
The first item to address was the existing infrastructure, which didn’t include power or internet in their storage or contractor yard. This was limiting access to lighting and higher-end security systems and cameras. As the client is in the electrical business, they were quickly able to run power to the site and keep costs down by installing cables provided by Richmond Security.
From that point, we installed an Avigilon Multi-head camera and an Analog encoder to bring in their existing 3 cameras, along with an Avigilon Embedded NVR to capture recording.
This provided a higher-level of monitoring, but also the ability to remote view the premises on the Avigilon App.
The Result
To date, since these security solutions have been installed, the customer has not experienced any further thefts, which is saving the time and dollars, while also providing peace of mind.
Their new system also allows for expansion or enhanced services, so as their needs change or expand their Avigilon system can easily fit within that framework.
